By taking out a rabbit insurance policy you can cover the cost of veterinary fees if your pet should become ill or is injured. You usually take out a policy for a year at a time and renew it on a yearly basis to provide continuous cover.

Most rabbit insurance policies will provide cover and several other different benefits but covering the cost of veterinary treatments which usually includes physiotherapy. Depending on the level of cover you take out you will have a maximum yearly amount that you will be able to claim for, generally the more comprehensive the policy the higher the amount you can claim for in any one year. There will also be a certain level of excess on each policy, the higher the level of excess you are willing to accept the lower this will make your yearly premiums.

You will need to declare any pre-existing conditions as these will not be covered and you will not usually be able to claim within the first 14 days of starting the policy. You will also usually only be covered for the death of your rabbit through injury or illness up to a certain age.
